Moving from Infinity New Tab to Tabdial

In short: Tabdial can't read Infinity's backup file, so your sites come over by hand: many in one click with Add your most visited sites, the rest a page at a time with the toolbar button. Tabdial does less than Infinity. It is a speed dial in groups, with no widgets and no account.

If you use Infinity for its widgets, Tabdial won't replace them. If you only use its icons, read on.
Before you install Tabdial
Take a screenshot of your Infinity new tab, one for each page of icons. That's your list to work from. The browser shows only one new tab extension at a time, and the one installed last wins, so you won't see Infinity's page once Tabdial is in.
Bring your sites over
- Install Tabdial from the Chrome Web Store, or from Microsoft Edge Add-ons or Firefox Add-ons. If the browser asks whether you meant to change your new tab page, keep the change.
- Open a new tab and click Add your most visited sites. Many of your Infinity icons are probably among them.
- Want your sites sorted the way you had them? Tabdial uses groups. Click the + next to the group names to make a group, and drag a dial onto a group's name to move it there.
- For each site on your screenshot that's still missing, open it and click the Tabdial button in the toolbar (Add this page to Tabdial). It joins the group you looked at last, with a picture of the page as its thumbnail. Or click the Add a site tile and type the address.
Don't see the toolbar button? Click the puzzle-piece Extensions button and pin Tabdial.
Set up the look again
- Wallpaper: in Tabdial's Settings, under Background, pick a gradient or a color, or upload your own picture.
- Icon size and layout: Dials per row sets how many dials fit in a row, from 3 to 10.
- Custom icons: click a dial's pencil button, then Upload image or paste an image link.
- Search: the search box finds your dials, and searches the web with your browser's search engine when none matches.
Afterwards
When your dials look right in Tabdial, you can remove Infinity New Tab from chrome://extensions. More on everything Tabdial does is in How to use Tabdial.
